EL CALVARIO CHURCH
It is one of the oldest churches in all of El Salvador. Its construction began in 1660, by order of Fray Payo Rivera, bishop of Guatemala, who wanted the nascent city of San Salvador to have a temple dedicated to the preparation of Lent and to celebrate Holy Week. That old building was destroyed in 1854 by a strong earthquake; A second construction, made of wood and sheet, was also destroyed but this time by fire in 1908.
